The embattled Nick Kyrgios has put it out there, that he thinks he can be Top 10 by the end of the year.

The 23-year-old met the media Saturday in Melbourne and says if he can stay healthy enough and be mentally motivated to playing a full schedule, a top 10 ranking could happen.

“If I get right physically and mentally, I play the events, do well, I think I was 13 the year where I played I think 18 events, I was 13,” Kyrgios said. “I didn’t even play any of the European swing. Realistically I could be top 10. That’s a fact.”

The fact is for Kyrgios is he is ranked No. 51 this week after a poor second half of 2018. And an even bigger problem is his first round opponent at the Australian Open on Tuesday which is former Australian Open semifinalist Milos Raonic. The two have split six meetings with Raonic winning at Queen’s in 2016.

“Obviously Milos is a tough player,” Kyrgios said. “We’ve played each other a couple times at Grand Slams. We’ve played each other at Masters events, tour events. We both know each other’s games fairly well. We know what’s coming.

“I know what can happen, he knows what I’m going to do. It’s going to be incredibly tough. I’m very excited just to be out here in the Aussie summer in front of the home crowd, to play a tough opponent. I can see it as a good thing. I have to be locked in from the get-go.”

Kyrgios made the Australian Open quarterfinals in 2015. Last year he reached the fourth round losing to Grigor Dimitrov.

He reached a career-high ranking of No. 13 in October of 2016.
