According to Argentina’s LA NACION, Juan Martin del Potro hasn’t ruled out playing the Nitto ATP Finals — but his chances of playing at The O2 Arena remain slim. The 30-year-old fractured his right kneecap during a heavy fall at the Shanghai Masters.
The Argentine couldn’t finish his Shanghai opener as he retired the match after losing the first to Croatia rising star Borna Coric.
Via @sebatorok, Juan Martín Del Potro still hopes to play the ATP Finals.
Del Potro has had an outstanding season as he is the third-ranked player on the Race to London list.
The 30-year-old has played in six finals so far this year. The Argentine won it all in Acapulco and the Indian Wells Masters but finished runner-up in Auckland, Los Cabos, Beijing and the US Open. He was also a semi-finalist at the French Open and the Miami Masters.
Del Potro, now ranked at No. 4 in the world, also achieved his career-high ranking of No. 3 this past August. It all appeared to be set for del Potro’s comeback to the Nitto ATP Finals. Del Potro, who has four appearances at the season-ending event, hasn’t played at The O2 Arena since 2013.
The Argentine fell just short of winning it all at the Nitto ATP Finals in 2009 as he was defeated in the final by former Russian star Nikolay Davydenko. It remains to be seen will del Potro recover in time for the Nitto ATP Finals.
