Tennis – Russian Alla Kudryavtseva has become the latest WTA player to announce her pregnancy, with an Instagram post showing that she and husband Dan will be welcoming their first child in December. The two had a formal wedding in September in Italy and a civil ceremony had taken place in July.
The 30-year-old Russian joins Elena Vesnina, Martina Hingis and Nadia Petrova, who have all recently announced that they were pregnant. Kudryavtseva is currently ranked No. 686 in singles and No. 54 in doubles. She has not played on the tour since Wimbledon where she and partner Lyudmyla Kichenok were beaten by Bethanie Mattek-Sands/ Lucie Safarova in the first round.
Kudryavtseva has won 1 singles and 8 doubles title on the WTA tour. Her best singles ranking has been No. 56 in 2010 and No. 15 in doubles in 2014. Her most famous win in singles came at Wimbledon when she beat Maria Sharapova, then seeded No.
3, in the second round as she went on to reach the last 16 – which is her best showing in a Grand Slam tournament to date.
